When Did We Stop Playing?
When people talk about the importance of play as adults... I've been known to roll my eyes.
I used to think...
Play? Who's got time for that?
I've got a business to run, people I love to care for, responsibilities that don't magically disappear because someone tells me to be more "playful."
Then there's my almost four-year-old niece.
Every time we're together...
We dance.
We bake.
We go for walks.
We make up silly games and songs.
We put music on and dance some more.
And somewhere between the giggles and the imaginary adventures...
I notice something.
I'm not just watching her play.
I'm playing too.
For those few hours, I'm not thinking about my inbox.
I'm not solving problems.
I'm not carrying the weight of the world.
I'm just... there.
Completely present.
Completely alive.
It makes me wonder...
When did we decide that growing up meant giving that part of ourselves away?
This Tuesday in Kundalini Dance, we're exploring the energy of Lalita — whose name means "She Who Plays."
Not because she's asking us to be childish.
And not because healing is about pretending life isn't hard.
Lalita reminds us that healing isn't only about working through our pain.
It's also about remembering what makes us feel alive.
Maybe play isn't really the point.
Maybe it's what play awakens.
Curiosity.
Creativity.
Wonder.
Presence.
The freedom to move without worrying how you look.
To laugh without wondering if it's appropriate.
To reconnect with the vibrant, joyful, amazing person you are beneath all the responsibilities you've been carrying.
That's the invitation of this Kundalini dance.
Through movement, breath, music, mantra, and community, we'll awaken the playful, creative life force already within us — the part that creates, imagines, trusts, and delights in simply being alive.
Because maybe joy isn't something we earn after we've healed or are less stressed.
Maybe joy is part of how we heal and manage the stress.
If you've been carrying too much...
If life has felt heavy...
Come move with us.
