Woodstock Was Never Just About the Music
In August of 1969, nearly half a million people gathered on a dairy farm in Bethel, New York.
They came for the music.
But they found something much bigger.
For three days, strangers became community.
People looked after one another.
They expressed themselves freely.
And in the middle of a world filled with conflict and uncertainty, they caught a glimpse of what peace could actually feel like.
57 years later... we're still searching for many of the same things.
Peace.
Connection.
A place to belong.
A chance to exhale.
We're moving faster than ever, yet somehow feel more disconnected.
Our attention is constantly being pulled in a hundred different directions.
Our bodies carry stress we don't even realize we're holding.
The world still needs what Woodstock stood for.
Not the concert.
The values.
Peace.
Love.
Freedom.
Authenticity.
Community.
Hope.
Those weren't just ideals for one extraordinary weekend in 1969.
They're timeless reminders of what's possible when we slow down, come together, and remember our shared humanity.
For me, Woodstock is deeply personal.
My grandparents bought land in Bethel in 1980, and when my family moved here full-time in 1992, I had no idea how much this place would shape my life.
I grew up just a few miles from the original Woodstock festival site.
I attended anniversary celebrations.
I danced under those skies to the music of legends like Santana, Richie Havens, Earth, Wind & Fire, Donna Summer, and Elton John.
I built a career connected to Bethel Woods.
My name is even etched into one of the original steel beams of the pavilion.
Some places become part of your story.
Bethel became part of mine.
Over the years, I've realized Woodstock's legacy was never really about the music.
It was about what became possible when people gathered.
People felt free to be themselves.
Community came first.
Hope felt possible.
That's the feeling I hope to create every time I guide a JourneyDance.
And every time I return to that sacred land, I'm reminded that the spirit of Woodstock never really left.
It still lives anywhere people gather with open hearts.
Which is why I'm inviting you to experience the Woodstock spirit for yourself.
Two ways. One intention.
Whether we gather in person or online, this isn't about learning dance steps.
There's no choreography and no judgment.
We'll move to the iconic songs that became the soundtrack of a generation that believed peace, love, and freedom weren't just ideals — they were something worth living.
Movement that helps your body release what your mind has been carrying.
And a community of people choosing to step away from the noise and back into themselves.
Because healing doesn't always happen through words.
Sometimes it happens through movement.
Sometimes through music.
Sometimes by remembering we're not alone.
Whether you join me just minutes from the original Woodstock site or from your own home...
I hope you'll leave feeling lighter.
More grounded.
More alive.
Because the world still needs peace.
It still needs love.
It still needs people willing to come together.
And I still believe healing happens one person...
One song...
One dance...
At a time.
